Could Everton's Joleon Lescott win the captain's armband from Fabio Capello?
By Daniel Gregory 27/03/08
You would get very long odds on Joleon Lescott becoming a future England captain, even with Fabio Capello's skipper rotation policy taking effect.
Lescott came on for ex-skipper John Terry at the Stade de France on Wednesday and produced a solid display to further enhance his International reputation.
There are slight suspicions of a rift between new manager Capello, and the former skipper John Terry, and surely Lescott could only gain from that, seemingly being Capello's preferred third choice centre back, after Terry and Rio Ferdinand.
It really wouldn't suprise me to see Lescott captain England, the lad has just gone from strength to strenght recently after his meteoric rise from Championship football, to Premier League, European and International football and I can only see him improving further.
Lescott would be one of my preferred options for the captaincy next season if Phil Neville doesn't retain the armband, and alongside my other choice, Tim Cahill, stands out from the rest as captain material.
